More than Carpets Racing - Project Gallery.
Bronco Cleanup 1982: Fullsize Bronco
A pictoral essay on how the Bronco looked when I got it and the first things I did.
We get LOTS of rain here 160 or so inches per year. That about 13 FEET of rain! So, carpet is not going to work. A young fella owned it before me. He had stereo wires everywhere. Plus there was a PA and a Musical Air horn.
I'm not sure how the bronco ended up with trailer park paneling in it. Wet carpet up front and wet paneling on the sides and bottom of the back.
I used Herculiner inside after cleaning off rust, glue and fuzz. Up front I used West Sytems fiberglassing epoxy and glassed in the foot wells on the driver and passenger side. Again, it's really wet here. |

Lockers and 4.88 gears install Ford 9" and Dana 44 TTB
I purchased 4.88 gears and Detroit Lockers for the front and rear of the Bronco. Randy's Ring and Pinion was very helpful. The 9" came built and ready to slide in. I didn't take as many pictures as I should have but it was kind of an oily job.
The reason for the gearing and lockers was so I could be competitive in the Naukati Mud Bogs. I still haven't made it there :(
I got lots of tips from the local Napa Auto Parts. One of them was to hone out the old bearings and use it to mock up the front end. Then check the lash tear it all apart adjust and check again. If I would have used the new bearings they would have been destroyed as they go on pretty hard.
My buddy has a great shop and it was literally in the same building as my business. I've since changed locations so no more sneaking over to turn a wrench during business hours. Those were the days. |

Bronco Engine Swap 351w to Inline 300 (4.9L)
The 351w broke a connecting rod and it went through the block. I decided to do something differant and build an inline 300. It took a couple of tries to find a suitable block for the rebuild. I spent a lot of time reading posts on the Ford Six website and have decided on what I want to build.

Solid Axle Swap Swapping to a solid axle
So far I am gathering parts and information for the Swap. There are lots of good links at FullSize Bronco . Take a look at my parts so far and I will be starting the swap in the spring. I still haven't decided if I am going to do coil or switch to leaf springs. Both have there advantages and disadvantages. The leaf is a far simpler design but people have done some very nice coil swaps with lots of flex and travel. |
